KALAMAZOO, MI -- Western Michigan University will close at 3 p.m. on Thursday Dec. 22 in anticipation of a severe winter storm.All campuses will be closed except for essential services, according to the WMU website. WMU's winter break begins on Friday Dec. 23.The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning, a rarity regarding storm intensity, for Southwest Michigan from Thursday evening through Saturday night.Snow accumulations and wind gusts up to 60 mph are expected which will create life-threatening driving conditions on Friday, according to the NWS.
